Zynga has joined forces with Water.org once again to help impoverished and struggling communities find and develop new sources of fresh water. In perhaps the most fitting promotion since the two first teamed up, FarmVille 2 players can purchase the precious liquid in three different varieties, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Water.org's efforts across the globe.
The four-week campaign launched Nov. 8, offering three limited edition water-themed items for purchase using Farm Bucks (the game's paid currency). Players can buy a Deco Jerry Can and Water 10 Pack for $5, a Deco Pump and Water 30 Pack for $10 and, finally, a Deco Sprinkler and two Water 30 Packs for $15. Of course, Zynga and Facebook will give 100 percent of the proceeds to Water.org.
"Our ongoing partnership with Zynga.org is connecting the world with one of the most important issues of our times," Water.org co-founder (and celebrity) Matt Damon said in a release. "Water is a precious resource. For people without safe drinking water, life is a daily struggle for survival. Zynga is tapping into the power of their network and players to deliver real and lasting change."
It's refreshing to see social games leverage their powerful reach to influence good causes. (And some games have been built entirely around that concept.) Of course, that all depends on players forking up the cash. But if a cause as noble as fresh water for all won't do it, who knows what will.
